Beyond: Two Souls vs. The Stanley Parable

Ben Yatzee Croshaw Well. I finally did it. I put a rather upsetting amount of money where my mouth is. Yesterday I received delivery of a new Alienware desktop gaming PC. Up until now, I've mainly played new games on the consoles, and occasionally whatever interesting new PC releases my laptop could run (usually for about an hour on the lowest possible resolution before it set fire to my desk and melted through the floor into the Earth's crust). But no more! Now Steam releases can optimize as shittily as they want, and with the exception of exclusives and delayed PC ports, I can play all the newest games on a platform that doesn't fill me with foreboding.

Beyond: Two Souls Review | GamR Mag

GamR Mag Writes: "It seems as if every time Quantic Dream releases a game, the general gaming community begins debating what constitutes a game. This is due to the fact that most Quantic Dream games are a little less play and a little more watch than most gamers are used to. David Cage and Quantic Dream have been known for providing an experience over delivering a typical button-mashing title."

Beyond: Two Souls Review | GameCloud

GameCloud: "Ultimately, Beyond: Two Souls succeeds as a narrative experience, and confidently delivers a captivating story that is thoughtful and driven by interesting characters. The non-linear structure is an intriguing idea that works fairly well despite limiting the players ability to make meaningful choices, but overall, I think David Cage and his team at Quantic Dream mostly achieved what they set out to do in the beginning. However, the problem is that this game will simply not be for everyone as it really depends on how anal you are with your definition of a game. Honestly, its great, but if youre not going into it for the story, you may just end up having a miserable time trying to take what visual enjoyment you can from seeing lots of Ellen Page. In my opinion, it does enough to justify being called a game, but unlike some of the aforementioned titles in this genre, I'm not entirely convinced it needed to be one."

While there are some minor issues with the story, and the gameplay is nothing to write home about, it is fully eclipsed by the strength of the writing and performances.

Beyond: Two Souls Review | Awesome Games

Added: 28.10.2013 14:18 | 3 views | 0 comments

Jonathan from Awesome Games writes: 'Beyond: Two Souls is a game about a woman who is torn between life and death. She is tethered to a ghost-like entity named Aiden who has been with her since she was born. She both loves and hates Aiden; hes both her constant companion and the one who stops her from living a normal life. In one sequence, when Jodie is a punky adolescent, she pines about her desire to be like other girls her age, even though her connection to Aiden makes her special. Beyond: Two Souls has a similar problem, its torn between emulating the style of other games, and embracing its own nature as something mysterious, beautiful, and even frightening to some.'
